People are tired of hearing about Google+, but they’re excited at the same time. The backlash and negative feedback usually comes from marketers who are tired of keeping up with all the social platforms that are now in existence. While we agree it can be exhausting to keep up, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. Would Olympians be where they are if they complained about being “tired” and not wanting to keep up? Absolutely not, and that’s why they’re some of the best at what they do. If you want to consider yourself a marketing expert, let alone a Social Media Marketing expert, you will need to add Google+ to your list of resources.
Those that are excited about Google+ understand that it opens up doors that were not there before. They understand that social media does have a direct impact on your overall marketing strategy, and it’s not something that should be taken lightly. The question is…because Google+ is so new, how will it effect your marketing strategy? Is it too early to tell? The answer to that is yes and no. Over the years, we’ve seen just how social media effects lead generation, branding recognition, and interactivity, so we know there is definitely an upside. How to specifically tie in all three of these aspects to optimize Google+’s inherent abilities is still unknown…but here’s what we DO Google+ will do for you right now.
- Syndication Marketing (i.e. Cross Promotion) – Whether you want to believe in Google+’s “amazing” possibilities doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that it allows you yet another platform to voice your opinion and promote your business. If you write a killer article and want to share it with the world, there’s no rule saying you can’t syndicate that same article across 9 different social networks. Start using Google+ to syndicate the work you’re doing.
- Referral Traffic – Google+ has already been found to provide a ton of referral traffic, so use it! In fact, it’s been found that websites that utilize the Google +1 button get 3.5 times more traffic than sites that don’t. Seems like a no-brainer, right? Hop to it, and add the +1 button to your site right away to start taking advantage of that referral traffic.
- Not A Replacement – There isn’t a one-size fits all social media marketing platform yet, so don’t think Google+ is going to do that for you. It is not meant to be used as a stand-alone in your marketing strategy, and it is not meant to replace one platform for another. Instead, be sure to incorporate it with the other top social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
