Today, ours is a society of “busy” people; when users search the Internet for information, products, or services, they want it in a jiffy. If your business website isn’t speedy enough or finding the information takes too much time, you can believe visitors will quickly be on to the next site – your competitor’s. At EBB Web Design, our Atlanta digital marketing team has a few tips for helping users save time on your site.
Improve your website’s loading time. Have you ever been to a website that took FOREVER to load? It’s irritating, and you probably didn’t stay very long. A website should load in just seconds, so be sure to do everything possible to ensure your site loads quickly.
Improve your site’s readability by spacing out the content. Content that goes on and on – and on, in one solid block without breaks, is impossible to read and extremely aggravating. Break up your content into small sections and include sub headings, bullet points, and bold headings to ensure visitors can quickly find the information they’re looking for on the page.
Extend session expiry, particularly e-commerce sites. Expand the amount of time a shopper can be on your site before his or her session time expires. Nothing is more frustrating than adding another item to your cart or getting to the check out, then having to log in all over again because the session has expired!
Make your site user-friendly in regards to the architecture of information. Not only should your navigation be simple, users should be able to browse intuitively. For instance, if a user arrives at an inner page on your website via a search engine, he/she should be able to efficiently navigate to other pages/areas on your site about the same subject. You can accomplish this by providing a “related articles” section at the bottom of the page, using colored links in your content that take the reader to related information, or by providing a search bar or category menu.
Other things you can do to save users’ time on your website include avoiding captcha codes and optimizing sign-up forms so users can quickly arrive at their intended destination.
