Many rules have changed in the world of SEO. Some old schools tactics are even outlawed by the main search engines. The mighty Google is still alive and kicking but don’t underestimate the power of Bing/Yahoo considering their combined forces have about 1/3 of the total search volume on the planet.
If you are trying to gain rank on Yahoo/Bing, consider some of these simple SEO practices. This is also solid advice for Google (*There are slight variations on each search engine if you are trying to be extremely targeted).
- Your Meta Title should have 3 of your primary keywords if possible. Try and separate each of them with a Pipe “|”. Your company name should also be included in the Title.
- Include a nice clean recap of your Title Tag written out in your Meta Description. Keep it short and sweet but maintain your primary keywords or keyword phrases. Don’t be a keyword abuser…Google and others are hip to this folks. Give the users a REAL description, with your keywords, that applies to what you really do. Make it brief, under 150 characters if possible. Google will cut you off after that anyway. Other search engines like Yahoo and Bing may allow more.
- Use Smart URLs folks. Don’t be off topic whenever possible.
