If you’re having a custom real estate website designed (and you should, if you’re in the industry), including a blog is super-important for a number of reasons. Many of these sites have blogs today, but sometimes they aren’t used to their full potential – generic content, infrequent updates, etc. You can reap great rewards from including a blog if you go about it the right way! So what will make a real estate blog work for you?
Focus it on the reader. Far too many real estate websites’ blogs are filled with the latest listings, which can come across as a little too promotional. While it’s okay to promote your properties and services every now and then, the focus should be on providing helpful solutions and value to the reader. When writing an article for your blog, keep the mindset of “I want to help the reader” rather than “I want to generate profit.” Consumers can see through self-promotion, so try to strike a good balance with your content.
Make sure the content is exceptional. People don’t want to read the same old thing they’ve already read on various other sites. Your content should be informative, specific, useful, and valuable, written in a way that’s engaging and snags the reader’s interest. Be sure any facts or statistics you include in your posts are indeed factual, and stay on course in regards to your industry and niche. When people visit your real estate blog, they expect to find topics of interest, news, tips, etc. related to the industry – not the latest sports or political news.
Update your blog every week. Some like to post daily, two or three times a week, or once each week. It’s important to add fresh content to your blog at a minimum of once per week, otherwise your content becomes stale and visitors have no reason to return.
Social media platforms are a great way to promote your blog. Whether on Facebook, Twitter, or other social media sites, you have to engage with people and share information or advice that’s useful and informative in order to boost your audience, brand, and online presence. While you want to interact with friends or followers in many ways, it’s a good platform to promote your blog posts as well!
Blogs are important for SEO purposes. Search engine optimization is what makes a website appear in the top results when someone searches for a product/service. Not only can a blog help your real estate website show up on page one over time, your blog can actually show up in the search engine results when you learn how keywords and on-site/off-site optimization all works together. It’s a win-win!
