You’ve thrown in the towel and decided that a company blog really IS important for your business for several reasons. Maybe someone on your team has written a few posts or you’re taking care of it yourself. What happens when you get to the point your mind draws a complete blank? It happens to the best of us, but not to worry. Our Atlanta digital marketing team has come up with a few suggestions you’ll find useful when you seem fresh out of ideas!
Before we get started, we can’t stress enough how important it is to know and understand who your audience is. Otherwise, how can you create contact that appeals to your readers? Your audience also determines your writing style and tone – for instance whether it’s relaxed, all business, or even quirky or humorous at times.
One way to come up with new blog ideas is to choose a main or primary topic and branch out from that topic to subcategories. Essentially you can develop a cluster of content that revolves around your primary topic. For instance, if you’re in the HVAC industry heating and cooling is likely your primary topic. You can break things down further by going into indoor air quality, maintenance tips, types of systems (ducted vs. ductless systems), tips for saving on energy costs, and more.
Let your competitors help. While you never want to plagiarize or use someone else’s content, perusing a few of your competitors’ blogs can give you lots of inspiration for new blog topics! You may want to check out their social media pages to see what everyone seems to be talking about most. Lots of ideas out there!
Pay attention to the news. Whether online or on television, keeping up-to-date with hot topics and industry news is a great way to come up with writing ideas while staying relevant and keeping your readers in the loop.
Go back through your archives and freshen up old blog posts. When you look back at posts you’ve written a year ago or even more recent, you’ll probably find a lot of your content can be updated. For instance, maybe you’ve written about the “hottest makeup trends for 2016” or something like that. How about updating it so it’s relevant for 2018? You might also find that you’ve written on a topic that could be expanded on or even added to – for instance part two, part three, etc.
Brainstorm with your staff and co-workers. Everyone thinks differently, and we’re not all equally creative! Others may have great ideas you never would have thought of. Co-workers can also share their perspectives on what your customers want, their needs, the questions they want answered. So many ideas you’ll have to make a list!
Coming up with new blog ideas can be challenging, but with these suggestions we think you’ll have plenty to keep you busy over the next few weeks.
