Most savvy Atlanta-area business owners realize that in a highly competitive digital world, content is EVERYTHING today. Consumers want not only information regarding your product, service, company history, what sets you apart, or the latest news, they want answers, enlightenment, even entertainment in some cases. As experienced digital marketers and web designers, we know the importance of compelling content – but we also know providing it on a regular basis can be challenging. How can you get into the content creation habit?
First, practice free-writing exercises to help get those creative juices flowing and loosen up the thought process. Everyone’s heard of “writer’s block,” and getting started when you’re staring at a blank page zaps your motivation and energy before you ever write the first word. Free-writing is simply choosing a random topic and writing anything you like for just 10 or so minutes, without censoring or giving intense thought to what you’re writing. It’s exercise for your brain!
Take 5 or 10 minutes to read a marketing article. Marketing is a huge component of a successful business, so take time out to read one of the billions of marketing articles out there. While this can help give you new ideas for your own marketing strategy, it will also help you write in a way that’s more persuasive and gets your content shared more often.
What topics resonate with your target audience? By checking out the content in your industry that’s getting shared most, you’ll know what topics your audience is interested in so you can write about them. Consider searching YouTube to see which videos have the most views and finding out what content is trending through Twitter, Buzzfeed, Google Trends and other tools.
Shake up your routine. Always grab a cup of coffee, sit down at the same old desk or table, and turn on the computer? A writing routine that’s predictable and almost set in stone can result in content that’s just routine instead of content your readers find awesome! Change things up occasionally, even if it’s a small change.
Give your mind a few minutes to do absolutely nothing. It’s important when you’re trying to create content or market in an effective way to give your mind a break! For just five or 10 minutes, unplug from everything – the computer, phone, television, everything that connects us to the outside world. Sit and let your mind wander wherever it likes without your having to concentrate. It’s amazing what a little mind relaxation can do!
