Today, the iTunes Store boasts more than a quarter million iPad applications. Okay, you’re asking “so what does that mean?” This makes it apparent that developing iPad apps has never been easier than it is today. Essentially, if you have a great idea for an app and find a capable development team, you can have your own iPad app on iTunes in a matter of a few months! Yes, that’s exciting – but there is a downside. Developing a value-added service/product that’s different from all of those 250,000 that cover nearly 100% of people’s needs is not an easy task. What to do?
- Be aggressive – go ahead and push the envelope! It’s no secret that Apple-endorsed apps get TONS of downloads – far more than those that aren’t Apple endorsed. Apps developed using the latest SDK (software development kit) features usually get noticed.
- Separate yourself from the pack – be innovative. We’ve barely scratched the surface of “touch computing,” or what our fingers are capable of doing as far as input. It’s okay to question the “conventional” ways typically used to present an interface; in fact, the more you can separate yourself from the pack the better. Come up with something novel that while super simple, makes users’ lives easier.
- Monitor how users interact. There are plenty of monitoring tools available that let you see just how users of your app are interacting. To be sure yours doesn’t get left by the wayside like so many do when they fail to meet the demands of the customer, keep yours unique, fun to use and bug free.
With new applications coming out in the mobile world every day, it’s hard to make yours stand out and get noticed – but it’s possible. At E.B.B. Interactive, developing iPad apps is our passion; we’re as excited about your ideas as you are. Let us take your idea to reality!
