It used to be that all a company needed to reach success was for their customers, employees, and clients to like the company, its values, and products or services. Not so today, in a society guided by personal brands, over-sharing, and social media. Now, every industry must consider ‘likeability’ when it comes to an effective marketing strategy.
So, what is ‘likeability’ and how do you achieve it? As Atlanta digital marketing specialists, we have the answer.
Think about what ‘likeable’ really is to most people. Isn’t it something that’s relatable, sincere, charming, or even fun? It all boils down to the fact that people (including consumers) like things that make them happy, make them feel good, or that they identify with. For instance, on Facebook many individuals and companies get ‘Likes’ for certain content, pictures, or videos they share. More than just a Like, this is actually a public endorsement. Even with a business, people want to be able to connect on a personal level and see the real face behind the company.
Include lots of pictures. You know the old adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Nothing could be truer in the Internet age, although it may be better to think that, in the digital age, it’s worth a million words! Pictures engage immediately, and show followers on your social networks that those within your company are real people. Considering nearly everyone today has a smartphone, it’s easy to take relevant pictures in your business and use them for posting on your blog, social media platforms, even in your newsletters. Great for building your company’s image!
Mix in a little fun. Everything in your business doesn’t have to be serious. People like to see what goes on behind the scenes, so capture those moments when an employee is celebrating a birthday in the office, or some of your staff are hanging out in the break room – or, when they’re in action, doing their jobs. Your customers love transparency, and to see a bit more behind the company name and logo.
Don’t forget quality content. While pictures are certain to propel your ‘likeability’ factor to the top, you have to provide lots of great content on a regular basis as well. Offer up a good mix of pictures and content to create a story that engages your followers and compels them to share. Include content that educates and informs, announces a new product or promotion, and some that’s just plain fun. Show the human side of your business – but do it in a way that’s fun and professional, and never offensive.
