Blogging is an important component of an overall digital marketing plan, in addition to great website design, SEO, social media, and content marketing. If you run a business, whether small or large, a good blog is vital to your success online. It not only informs, educates, and enlightens your readers, but helps with search engine optimization as well. Many companies outsource blogging, while others choose to do it themselves. If you’re considering taking care of the blog yourself, our team has a few content development tips to make it easier.
First, write about what you love. Of course your posts should be relevant to your business, but put some passion in it. If you read what you’ve written and it bores you to tears, it will do the same to your readers. Be honest and transparent, but most of all love what you write and cater to the solutions/answers your readers are looking for.
Keep your paragraphs brief. Trying to read 500 words that all run together not only bores your readers, it can be a real headache trying to stay on the right line. Avoid spelling mistakes, and NEVER use text language when writing your blog! Be a professional, keep paragraphs short and sweet.
Include more verbs and fewer nouns. Verbs and adverbs make your content more exciting, compelling your visitors to keep reading.
Try to avoid redundancies. New and beginner have a similar meaning, so you want to avoid phrases like “new beginner” as much as possible.
Place the most important information first, as this is what will grab readers’ attention and keep them reading.
When you have a lot of information to share, break up the text with bold headlines, or numbered/bullet points. You want readers to be able to find the information they’re looking for easily, without having to read every word. People are in a hurry these days!
Optimize your blog titles and content with keywords and search terms, but don’t over do it. Using two or three search phrases sprinkled here and there is sufficient, and over-optimizing can actually be detrimental to your search rankings.
Above all, proofread for mistakes before you publish your blog! Misspelled words and bad grammar make you look unprofessional.
Most professionals would agree that it’s a good idea to blog at least once per week, more if you have time. If you don’t have the time or creativity to come up with ideas and write about them consistently, you may want to outsource the writing to a content developer. At EBB Web Design, our content development team is ready to help get your company blog up and filled with engaging content, which will strengthen your web presence and help build your brand.
