For an online business owner, indecision can be your biggest enemy – and cause you to fail. As an experiened Honolulu digital marketing team, we know that making a choice – even if it’s the wrong one – teaches us all lessons and helps us learn how to make better choices. There are some common obstacles on the internet when it comes to making business decisions, and sometimes we analyze things a bit too much, causing us not to take ANY action. Big mistake.
Are you making any (or all) of the following digital marketing mistakes?
When it comes to content, is quality or quantity more important? All of the so-called “experts” will tell you quality over quantity, but the two can actually be friends! Naturally, people want to read engaging, quality content that offers value and provides answers/information. Search engines love long pieces of content, but readers, not so much. So, if search engines love long-winded web pages or articles containing keywords, but your audience doesn’t read them and it increases your bounce rate, who wins? Conversely, really short pieces of content aren’t always the favorite of search engines, however readers love shorter articles that get right to the point.
What to do? Mix up a little of both, and make sure all of your articles, blog posts, and web pages are well-written, easy to read, and without any fluff. The point is, get to writing! Don’t let your indecision keep you from creating content, regardless of its length.
Jump into social media with both feet. Social media is critical to online success for businesses today, helping you engage with your audience, build your brand, and stay connected. The problem for many businesses is which platform to choose. Is the majority of your target audience hanging out on Facebook or Pinterest? Maybe it’s Twitter, Google+, or LinkedIn you should focus on. What lots of business owners end up doing is nothing, because they don’t know which platforms are best suited for their businesses. Don’t make this mistake!
Start out with Facebook so you get a feel for how it works, then you can move on to other social platforms. Set up a business page and profile (you can find tons of information online about how to do this), post a link to your latest blog post or an interesting article/video you found online, and go from there. Once you have a handle on Facebook, it’s easier to move on to other platforms. Market your business on at least a couple of social media sites to increase exposure and build brand awareness!
The important thing is not to let your indecision in various aspects of online marketing hold you back. When you aren’t sure if it’s the best decision, just get your feet wet and go for it! Until you give it a try, you’re not going to know what works and what doesn’t.
