Everyone knows today that consumers search the web for products, information, and services using mobile devices. If you’re a business owner who hasn’t taken any steps toward making your website mobile friendly, you may be facing “mobilegeddon!” Studies have shown that websites that aren’t mobile friendly do suffer when it comes to search engine rankings, some more than others depending on industry.
About one year ago, mobile friendliness became a ranking factor for Google. According to a Moovweb study, after Google’s mobile friendly algorithm went into effect in April of last year, more than three-quarters of results delivered to those using mobile devices were websites that were mobile friendly. Even more, regardless of what device a person uses to search (laptop, desktop, smartphone, tablet, etc.), 83% of top search results were coming from websites that were mobile friendly. This should indicate how vital it is to have a business website that’s designed to be properly viewed and functional, regardless of what type of device consumers are using!
While the industries affected most in the beginning were insurance, healthcare, and retail, it’s become clear over the past year that all industries are being affected. It may be just a tad overdramatic to use the word “mobilegeddon,” as not every website that isn’t yet mobile friendly has dropped completely off the face of the search engine rankings, but it’s very clear that those sites that are mobile friendly are taking over – in a BIG way. Websites that once enjoyed a page one ranking are sinking lower and lower in the results pages, and you know what that means – fewer potential clients are finding them. Consumers typically aren’t going to search through dozens of pages, and they usually won’t go farther than page two if they even make it that far.
So, what’s the solution? There’s only one. If you haven’t made an investment in responsive website design yet, it’s time to make the move. If you don’t, you’ll see over time that your website sinks into obscurity, which means a lost opportunity for new clients – and lost revenue. Isn’t it time to invest in your business?
