As strange as it may seem, there are still plenty of websites around the web today that look as though they’re stuck in a time warp. Some are super-crowded with ads, banners, and other bells and whistles in every possible square inch of the page. Others have boring typography, designs that look confusing or uncoordinated – some are just plain ugly. As much as we hate to say it, some websites just look like they were designed by first graders!
If you feel your face turning red as you read this, maybe yours is one of the websites we’re describing above. Not to fret; our Atlanta web designers are about to reveal a few of the top trends in web design for 2014 and beyond.
Typography is key today. Today’s fonts are not your run-of-the-mill standard serif or san serif. Give your content personality! Even the fonts in your content can lend to the overall look and design while still presenting your business in a professional manner.
Flat design. Shadows and gradients used to be all the rage, but today it’s all about flat design – thanks to Apple, who seems to be the leader that everyone else in the world follows. Flat design is simple and clean, important aspects in web design today.
It’s all about mobile. Everywhere you look, people are using their mobile devices to access the web. This necessitates integration with social media, fast loading and long scrolling sites. Your website should be a “friendly” place to be for mobile users.
Simple color schemes. Black and white, a single dominant color, maybe two. Color schemes are becoming simpler, and it works particularly well in flat design.
Concise pages. Maybe this was inspired by Twitter, but short bursts of content are becoming all the rage. Website pages used to be longer in terms of content, but readers nowadays are in a hurry and want what they want, when they want it! Content is kept brief and to the point, so readers can quickly find what they’re looking for without wading through a sea of words.
These are just a few of the trends in website design today. If your website seems a bit “heavy,” flashy, confusing, or just plain old-fashioned, maybe it’s time for an update! At EBB Web Design, it’s our business. Contact us today to discuss your needs.Google+
