By now most businesses with a website know that content is critical in how your website performs and converts. There are several content marketing mistakes you may be making, and you may not even be aware of some. In order to increase traffic and keep customers, your content should be relative, valuable, fresh, and consistent. See if you’re making any of the mistakes below.
Are your keywords placed strategically, and are they directly relevant to your topic? Whether writing a blog post or article for some other purpose, keywords should be distributed throughout your content, but avoid overuse. Placed within the title, a header, and sprinkled through the body is good, but the content should flow naturally so that they don’t stand out to the reader, or make the content sound awkward when read by visitors.
Content that’s boring, and written for the sake of adding content. Who wants to read information they’ve already read at a dozen other websites? Re-spun, boring content can quickly take your website to the bottom of the barrel. Depending on your industry, talk about the latest trends; try to have a fresh, unique approach to the information you share, and most of all, enlighten your users with information that’s accurate.
Do you have a company blog? You should. This is one way to continually provide fresh content to potential clients, and Google likes fresh content as well. If you do have a blog, be sure it isn’t getting stagnant. Post a new article at lease once per week, and make sure it’s fresh and relevant.
Integrate social media and align your content marketing objectives with your strategies. Are you using Facebook, Twitter, or other social platforms? You should be, as social media is a huge aspect of content marketing today. Place social media icons on your blog so others can share your great content. On social platforms, it can be tough to figure out what to post. It’s easy, actually. Link to a new blog post you’ve recently posted, share something relevant to your industry that you found interesting, ask thought-provoking questions about your industry.
End your articles and blog posts with a call to action. Whether a link to your “contact us” page, your phone number, or an enticing ad, urge readers to take action now. Every piece of content presents an opportunity to build new clients and leads!
