At EBB Web Design, our Atlanta SEO professionals understand that search engine optimization is ever-changing. If you (or your SEO firm) are still using strategies to increase traffic and conversions that were effective in 2010, it may be time to reevaluate your SEO best practices. While certain elements of SEO are still effective, many – in fact most – have changed.
Setting goals for 2015 is a good start, and accomplishing those goals even better. Here are a few tips to make your SEO efforts more effective, so you can see fantastic results.
Instead of concentrating on links, concentrate on relationships. Today, connecting with people is vital. Connecting with others in your industry or related industries and nurturing relationships with those people is key, and will ultimately give you those strong, quality links you need. How to accomplish this? Come up with two or three sites that you would love to have links from, and get busy. Subscribe to these sites’ Facebook, Twitter, or other social media feeds, RSS, even their newsletters. Become a member of the audience, and you will be able to determine who the real influencers are, who creates the content on these sites, etc.
Once you’re familiar with the key players and what the audiences of these sites like in terms of content, you will be in a great position to create content of your own to post on those sites – which means the ultimate backlink, more valuable than any link from a directory or article site.
Engagement – discover what visitors are REALLY doing on your site. Google ‘watches’ what visitors do when they’re on your website – and you should, too. This means more than learning how many unique visitors come to your website each day, and what pages they’re visiting. What is the user’s experience, really? Use analytical tools to learn how users are arriving on your site. Engagement metrics help you determine the strengths and weaknesses of your site, so that you can make any necessary changes. Are people watching your video, sharing your blog posts, downloading your free report? You want visitors to really engage with your website, which will help SEO rankings.
Dive into marketing. Marketing strategies change, just like SEO strategies do. Today, marketing is more about attraction than direct advertising or attempting to hit potential clients over the head with your offer. Because SEO is about optimizing for users’ search today rather than for the search engines themselves, you need a good understanding of the most effective marketing strategies, and how to build a strong marketing foundation. You can learn a lot by reading some of the top marketing blogs, but reading a book will give you an in-depth understanding of the best practices in marketing today, and how they tie in with SEO. Make it your goal to read a current marketing book every few months.
It’s not easy, and we understand that. Today, there is a lot more involved in ranking highly in the search engines than there once was, and it takes work. However, if you will put in the time and effort, the rewards will be outstanding!
