You may be a business owner who already has a website, or maybe you’re looking to revamp an old one. Websites are the “hub” of your business, designed to increase traffic, gain targeted leads, and of course increase sales. If conversions and sales aren’t that great, we have a few suggestions to help you fine-tune your site so that it performs in the way you had hoped, driving traffic and leads.
First and foremost, keep it simple. No visitor to your site wants to spend valuable time searching for what they’re looking for. Your website should include a clear, cohesive value proposition and move them through the pipeline seamlessly. What you want to avoid most of all is confusion as to where to find the product, service, or information visitors are looking for. Simple and helpful design results in clients who will contact you, or continue on with the order process.
Simple navigation is TOP priority. Can visitors easily find what they’re looking for? Avoid filling your website with walls of text, and provide visitors with the info they want immediately. An uncluttered menu, consistent color in design, and easy access to contact or FAQ pages are essential for giving visitors exactly what they’re looking for.
Use the right colors. Color evokes emotion; certain colors help drive conversions depending on your industry. For instance, if your business caters to an older generation, you’ll probably want to avoid bright, glow-in-the-dark neon colors and opt instead for calmer, muted colors. Just because you have a favorite color doesn’t mean it will work to attract visitors on your website or compel them to become a subscriber or make a purchase. It’s important to understand the psychology of color, and the actions/emotions it invokes in people.
Understanding the customer is key to SEO/keyword optimization. Today, SEO and keyword optimization has taken a 360 degree turnaround from what it was even 10 years ago. People are using very detailed keyword searches, as search engines are perfectly aware. General keywords won’t get the job done; your pages should be optimized for local search, and long phrases potential customers may be using to find your product/service. In short, outstanding content is key, and really more important than keyword optimized pages – it’s all about context. Make sure your content is engaging, delivers solutions, and answers your visitors’ most pressing questions.
Impatience is common online, so make sure your pages load FAST. No visitor is going to wait around for a minute (or even 30 seconds) for the page they click on to load. The quicker your pages load, the better. A simple design with pages that load fast not only impresses visitors, but search engines as well. Shoppers want to click through to the pages that provide them with information super-fast; sluggish or slow loading time just won’t get it.
