Social media marketing is a great strategy for any Atlanta business (in fact, if you’re not using it, you should be), however there are some huge mistakes you should avoid to ensure the best results for your efforts.
Before we get into some of the common blunders, it’s important to have a plan before you ever start, whether you intend to use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or a combination of popular platforms. Develop a strategy as to how many days a week you’ll post, determine the best time of day, and always monitor your pages so you can respond to questions or comments in a timely manner.
Now for the mistakes you want to avoid with social media marketing:
Creating multiple profiles. What you want is one great page so you can focus on your marketing efforts and become acquainted with your followers. It’s against the rules on most social media sites to create multiple profiles, and linking back to your site from several profiles won’t help your SEO – in fact, it could backfire on you.
Spamming. You know what spam emails are and how frustrating they can be. You’ll quickly lose followers if you randomly throw up links on your social media page every day. Overkill should be avoided at all costs; your followers want informative, inspiring videos; great photos; and thought-provoking, engaging posts that pique their interest.
Lack of interaction. Checking your Facebook business page once a week to see what’s going on won’t cut it. As we mentioned above, monitoring your pages frequently is important! Followers want to connect and interact with you; after all, that’s the point of social media.
Lack of followers. You’re thinking, “Well, I can’t force people to follow our business.” No, you can’t, but there’s a lot you can do to encourage it. Ask visitors to your website or blog to follow you, follow others relevant to your industry who may follow you in return. Use hashtags wisely, be positive, and be an informer – someone who brings value to the table. Include videos, even freebies or discount offers when you can. Create a competition, keep posts short and catchy, and NEVER include hard calls-to-action (again, spammy).
Social media marketing is almost a necessity today for any business that wants to build brand awareness and boost online presence. It’s also helpful with SEO in a roundabout way, and puts you in front of potentially millions of people! What’s not to love? But don’t make these mistakes.
