As a business owner in the Atlanta area, you probably know at least a little about SEO (search engine optimization) if you have a website. You know it’s important in order to rank high in search engine results, but for the most part you leave the “technical” stuff to your marketing and/or SEO firm. Today, it’s important to use every possible opportunity available to boost your SEO practices – and we have a few suggestions to help you supercharge your SEO for success.
Give thought to certain elements with ANY new page you add. Whether a blog article or new website page, it’s important to optimize every piece of content that goes on your site. Consider not only the copy in the body of your page or article, but page title, H1, and the keywords you’re using. It’s important to research keyword phrases to ensure you’re including those terms/phrases that people actually search for! Never guess at keywords when creating titles or writing content.
Make sure your links are from relevant and quality sites, and that listings include your website address. Getting links today is still important for SEO, as a link is a “like” vote in the eyes of search engines. However, you want to make sure you avoid links from low quality or non-relevant websites. Always include your website address in online listings, and consider linking sources such as the local Chamber of Commerce, the BBB, any associations your company belongs to, and other trusted, relevant sites. These links are likely “nofollow” links, which means they aren’t passing along that nice SEO juice, but they may establish “trust” in the eyes of search engines, which could in turn, boost your rankings.
Use keyword-rich anchor text in links – but not ALL of them. Keyword-rich anchor text used to be a huge factor in SEO, but not so much today. You should still create links that contain keyword phrases, but mix it up and avoid using the same exact phrase all the time. It’s best to keep keyword-rich anchor text to a small percentage of your links to be on the safe side. Other anchor types used in links include “naked” (a raw URL), “generic” such as “click here,” brand anchors (your company brand name), “LSI” (latent semantic index) which are simply variations of your primary keyword, etc. You get the picture – mix it up for great SEO results.
