Mubaloo, a UK development firm, recently hosted a seminar in London in which business apps were the focus. Overall, the message was positive for businesses; in fact, some believe that business apps may be the next ‘big thing,’ perhaps even taking over the spotlight from fun and entertaining apps like Words with Friends and Angry Birds!
Essentially, speakers at the seminar discussed how businesses should approach mobile applications, the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of putting apps together, and how it may be possible for companies to develop, design and secure apps under their own brands.
According to Mark Mason, CEO of Mubaloo, “An increasing number of businesses are preparing a suite of apps, both for internal and customer purposes.” Mason went on to say that he believed the ‘gimmick’ app was coming to an end, and that 2013 will be the year that companies really begin to understand the value of applications in their own businesses.
Mason believes that due to the launch of Windows 8, company owners will need to be prepared for another wave of mobile devices, not just the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend they are already aware of in which mobile workers use their own smartphones for work purposes, rather than employers providing employees with handsets or company provided smartphones. While some believe that many businesses are fully aware of mobile’s impact in the business/consumer environment, perhaps Windows 8 will take that awareness to a whole new level.
